“What do you do after work for entertainment in Hong Kong?” she asked. I pondered for seconds, and replied with a smile then said, “Basically the same as what Hong Kong people do.” And along with the smile, the question has also raised my curiosity towards the definition of entertainment in this capitalistic city.
During my first thought about entertainment in Hong Kong, it was only those capitalistic activities based almost entirely off of consumerism, and an amusement park brought this to its greatest extent.
However, amusement and enjoyment is the essence of entertainment, and having fun aimlessly can be an alternative lifestyle and entertainment that is independent of capitalistic consumerism.
當被她問到香港下班後有什麼娛樂，我雖然微笑回答：「大概就跟香港人會做的差不多？！」然而這問題同時亦激起我對這資本主義城市中的娛樂的好奇。
在思考這問題的初始，腦中似乎只浮現那些資本性的消費活動，遊樂園則是發揮這性質到極致。不過當娛樂的本質是樂事和享受，漫無目的的遊樂則可以是獨立於資本性消費的娛樂甚或生活方式。
